Canada stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.36%

Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Telecoms , Healthcare and IT sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.36%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ARC Resources Ltd . (TSX: ARX ), which rose 5.07% or 1.25 points to trade at 25.90 at the close. Meanwhile, OceanaGold Corporation (TSX: OGC ) added 4.92% or 0.22 points to end at 4.69 and Bombardier Inc (TSX: BBDb ) was up 4.12% or 3.29 points to 83.15 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were BCE Inc (TSX: BCE ), which fell 6.17% or 2.08 points to trade at 31.62 at the close. Open Text Corp (TSX: OTEX ) declined 5.89% or 2.49 points to end at 39.77 and Tilray Inc (TSX: TLRY ) was down 5.26% or 0.08 points to 1.44.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 508 to 411 and 92 ended unchanged.

Shares in BCE Inc (TSX: BCE ) fell to 5-year lows; falling 6.17% or 2.08 to 31.62. Shares in OceanaGold Corporation (TSX: OGC ) rose to 5-year highs; up 4.92% or 0.22 to 4.69. Shares in Tilray Inc (TSX: TLRY ) fell to all time lows; down 5.26% or 0.08 to 1.44.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.07% to 14.49.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.42% or 11.94 to $2,888.64 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.59% or 0.42 to hit $71.03 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.48% or 0.36 to trade at $74.65 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.14% to 0.70, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.67% to 0.68.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 107.94.
