Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Telecoms , Oil & Gas and Basic Materials sectors led shares higher while losses in the Consumer Goods , Consumer Services and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.28%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.04%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.36%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Coca-Cola Co (NYSE: KO ), which rose 4.73% or 3.05 points to trade at 67.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL ) added 2.18% or 4.97 points to end at 232.62 and International Business Machines (NYSE: IBM ) was up 2.18% or 5.43 points to 254.70 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Salesforce Inc (NYSE: CRM ), which fell 0.86% or 2.80 points to trade at 324.40 at the close. Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ: HON ) declined 0.76% or 1.58 points to end at 206.94 and Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ: CSCO ) was down 0.61% or 0.38 points to 62.43.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Dupont De Nemours Inc (NYSE: DD ) which rose 6.85% to 81.48, Ecolab Inc (NYSE: ECL ) which was up 6.22% to settle at 261.23 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC ) which gained 6.07% to close at 20.97.

The worst performers were Fidelity National Information Services Inc (NYSE: FIS ) which was down 11.49% to 73.16 in late trade, Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ: SMCI ) which lost 9.47% to settle at 38.61 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA ) which was down 6.34% to 328.50 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Firefly Neuroscience Inc (NASDAQ: AIFF ) which rose 170.97% to 8.40, Society Pass Inc (NASDAQ: SOPA ) which was up 120.38% to settle at 5.73 and Omega Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: OMGA ) which gained 78.98% to close at 0.19.

The worst performers were Fitell Corp (NASDAQ: FTEL ) which was down 53.49% to 1.00 in late trade, Fluence Energy Inc (NASDAQ: FLNC ) which lost 46.44% to settle at 7.00 and Bellevue Life Sciences Acquisition (NASDAQ: BLAC ) which was down 42.32% to 6.31 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1400 to 1364 and 92 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1960 fell and 1344 advanced, while 147 ended unchanged.

Shares in Fitell Corp (NASDAQ: FTEL ) fell to 52-week lows; falling 53.49% or 1.15 to 1.00. Shares in Society Pass Inc (NASDAQ: SOPA ) rose to 52-week highs; rising 120.38% or 3.13 to 5.73. Shares in Fluence Energy Inc (NASDAQ: FLNC ) fell to 52-week lows; falling 46.44% or 6.07 to 7.00. Shares in Bellevue Life Sciences Acquisition (NASDAQ: BLAC ) fell to all time lows; losing 42.32% or 4.63 to 6.31.

The CBOE Volatility Index , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.33% to 16.02.

Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.26% or 7.76 to $2,926.64 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.19% or 0.86 to hit $73.18 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.29% or 0.98 to trade at $76.85 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.52% to 1.04, while USD/JPY rose 0.28% to 152.45.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.37% at 107.79.
